Velvet Chenille Cotton Bed Blanket - Faribault Mills
The two enemies of cotton are color fading and shrinking – both can be prevented simply by taking a bit of care. Cotton is machine washable and machine dryable but high temperatures will cause it to fade or shrink. Always wash cotton blankets in cold or cool water on the gentle cycle. Alkaline soaps can cause color fading and should be avoided. Most common detergents designed for household use are safe for cottons. Machine drying is recommended to help cotton blankets retain their shape. When washed, cotton blankets tend to loosen up and “grow” a bit. Drying them at warm temperatures will help to tighten the weave back up and retain its original shape without shrinking. Drying on temperatures that are too high will cause cotton’s overall dimensions to shrink. When machine drying a cotton blanket, use only warm temperatures or a dryer setting recommended for cottons. If a cotton blanket is line dried in the sun, it might fade in the sunlight and will probably lose some of its shape. For this reason, machine drying on warm settings is recommended.
